"Mariah was diagnosed with hodgkins lymphoma 6 weeks after her second dose of gardasil. The guilt of a parent is difficult and I would never reccomend this vaccine to any girl"
Mariah Van Vessem (United States)
My daughter Mariah was diagnosed with hodgkins lymphoma 6 weeks after her second dose of gardasil. She discovered a lump on her neck 4 weeks after her injection and was treated for a swollen gland infection at first. The lump got larger after 2 more weeks. She was seventeen and in her last year of high school. This was October 2008. We had a CAT scan and her pediatrician sent us to Schneider”s chidrens hospital that same night. She underwent chemo and radiation and is now in remission. Her last cat scan was october 2009 and we will monitor for the next five years. This changed her life forever. The guilt of a parent is difficult and I would never reccomend this vaccine to any girl. My daughter was not sexually active but the media hype for this vaccine was so strong that my daughter and I were on board with it to protect her future. Now look at her future. Always worrying it will come back. Lifetime doctors appointments. Radiation side effects later on…and the list goes on. She is now an honors student at Johnson and Wales University and is happy.
